The first year of school brings with it many new experiences and questions about how to handle things that come up during the year. The following information includes answer to questions asked frequently. I hope this answers some of them. If not, please feel free to contact me.
After School Pick - Up
Students dismiss at 3:00 p.m. each day. Please be sure that you send me a note to let me know of changes in your child's transportation. Unless I have a note, they will be sent home their regular way.
Good attendance is critical for your child. School begins promptly at 7:55 a.m. Breakfast is also a very important meal so whether at home or school, please make sure your little one has eaten. It is crucial that your child arrive on time and be present whenever possible. Many of the learning activities that take place in my classroom are hands-on and group activities that can not be made up. I don't want students to miss out on anything unless they are ill. Although attendance is critical, please do not send your child to school if they are running a fever. If your child is absent, you must send a note the day that they return to school.
Each month your child will bring home a book order form. The Scholastic book orders offer good quality books at a low price and when your child orders, our classroom receives bonus points to purchase free materials that we use on a regular basis. When you do order, please send the order form and cash or a check made out to Scholastic in an envelope with your child's name and my name written on the envelope. This will help us to make sure that it makes it to me if it is dropped in the hall.
Invitations may only be passed out at school if every child in our class is invited. I realize that it may seem easier than mailing, however, we cannot pass them out to selected individuals.
Your child will be bringing home red folders on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Students should read the assigned book with an adult two times. The adult should sign their name to show they listened to or helped the student read their book. Students receive a sticker each time an adult has signed the reading log. When the student fills up their boxes with stickers, they get to choose a prize out of the treasure chest!
Each Monday your child will bring home their "Monday Folder". This blue, labeled folder will contain papers that I feel are important for you to see. I have found in the past that papers often get lost in the shuffle between school and home. Hopefully, since you will always be expecting the folder, we will have better communication. Papers will still come home through the week, however, I will save notes for field trips, special announcements, etc. for the "Monday Folder".
Lunch & Breakfast
Our school lunch menu can be found online on our school website. I also send home monthly lunch calendar in Monday folders at the beginning of each month. First grade lunch begins aronud 11:00 and ends at 11:40.
Please do not let your child bring toys to school. I have found that toys often get lost or broken and it is best if they are left at home. First grade teachers will be taking toys and putting them in our classroom treasure box.
If you have any toys your child has outgrown or simply doesn't play with anymore, our classroom would be glad to take them!
Parents-THANK YOU for all you do! Parental communication is crucial to your child's education. Please feel free to contact me anytime that you have a question or concern regarding your child. You may reach me by sending a note or by calling. The school phone number is 327-2730. I may not always be free to talk with you during the school day because I will most often be busy teaching your child, so please call or e-mail before or after school. You may e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org
