Ashland Independent Schools Registration Set

Registration for Head Start, Preschool and Primary School (formerly kindergarten and first grade students) will be held in the Ashland Independent School District during the week of March 27- March 31, 2017.  Registration hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily Monday through Friday.   Evening hours are available on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Thursday, March 30, 2017 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

R.A.P.P. Program

A free educational program for parents, grandparents, relatives and guardians currently raising children will be offered on March 16, 2017 from 11 am until 1 pm at the First Christian Church.  Local family service organizations will be hosting the program and will be on hand to answer your parenting questions.  Please read the attached brochure for more information.

Title I - In the Know Night

On Tuesday evening, March 21, 2017 at 6:00 pm the district will be hosting a Title I informational seminar.  The session will take place in the board room at central office.  Questions regarding Infinite Campus, kindergarten, school readiness and much more will be addressed.  We hope you will mark your calendar and join us.

In observance of President's Day, all schools will be closed on Monday, February 20, 2017.

Kindergarten Entry Age Change for 17-18 School Year

There is a new cutoff date starting next school year to enroll your child in kindergarten. Beginning with the 2017-18 school year, children must be 5 years old as of August 1 to enroll in kindergarten in a Kentucky public school.  Please review the following links if this change will affect your family.  Questions regarding kindergarten entry can be directed to Lisa Henson, Director of Student Services @ 606-327-2706.

Ashland Independent Schools is seeking candidates for a vacant board member seat.

2017-18 Calendar Survey

The calendar survey is now closed.  We would like to thank everyone for their input.  The feedback we recieved was especially helpful.  Of the 940 responses we recieved, 43.72% selected option 1 and 54.47% selected option 2.  The board of education will meet on Monday, January 23, 2017 to examine the survey results and make a final decision.

Kaylee Robinson Sr., Sarah Rymer So., Hannah Reese Jr., and Rachael Barber set a school record in the 4 x 200 relay at the state track meet on May 27th winning the state championship in a time of 1:44.59.

 

Applicants Sought for Vacant Board of Education Seat

The Kentucky Commissioner of Education is seeking applicants to be considered for appointment to the Ashland Independent Board of Education.  You are invited to nominate yourself or someone you know who is qualified to serve on the Ashland Independent School Board of Education.

GEARUP KY

Blazer High School and GEARUP KY would like to invite all parents/guardians of any Blazer High student to an informational session regarding preparing your student for college.  This event will be on Monday April 25th from 6-7:30 pm located in Blazer's library.  We will be covering the new changes to FASFA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)-which is to be completed in October for students who will be seniors during the 2016-2017 school year.  Also, we will be discussing options for after high school, the college application processes, testing requirements, and general college access information.  Refreshments will be provided as well.  We hope to see you there.  If you have any questions please contact Amy Bond or Jordan Smith, GEAR UP KY's College and Career Advisors, at Blazer High.

Ashland Summer Feed Program

The Ashland Independent Schools will be offering  breakfast and lunch May 31st through August 5th, 2016 from 8:00 am until 9:00 am  and 11:00 am until 12:30 pm each day at Crabbe Elementary School located at 520 17th Street near Central Park.

A retirement reception in honor of Mr. Gilmore will take place at Central Office on Monday, May 23, 2016 from 3:00-5:00 pm.  Everyone is welcome to attend.  Click here for more information.

High Attendance Day!

September 20 is statewide “High Attendance Day” to emphasize that consistent attendance is essential for success in school. If in class regularly, a student is more likely to keep up with the daily lessons and assignments, and to reach academic performance benchmarks on time.  Let’s see if Ashland can have 100% attendance on September. 20!

Sports Medicine Program

Any student grades 8 – 12 that is interested in joining the Sports Medicine program ay Blazer High School needs to contact Mr. AJ “Doc” Stadelmeyer for information at 606-327-6050 or 606-585-5459. There will be an informational meeting and open house for the Sports Medicine program Thursday May 19th at 3:45 PM in the athletic training room in Blazer building 7..

 

Congratulations Distinguished Schools!

Paul G. Blazer High School, Hager Elementary School and Oakview Elementary School all received Distinguished ratings on the state’s 2016 Accountability Report. Blazer experienced good improvement in overall achievement and student growth while great strides in reducing Novice scores contributed to the rise in the overall rating for both Hager and Oakview. Congratulations to the students and staff at each of these schools as well as to all of the students and staff of the Ashland Independent Schools for helping the district in its Proficient rating.

Monthly menus for each school can now be found online through Nutrislice using the following link http://ashland.nutrislice.com/.  The Nutrislice menu system is also available through a convenient app that you can download directly to your mobile device.

Free lunch/breakfast for all K12 Students

Ashland Independent School District, today announced an amendment to its policy for serving meals to students under the National School Lunch/ School Breakfast Programs for the 2016- 2017 school year. All students will be served lunch/breakfast at no charge at the following sites:
