AYSC Hoodie and Legging Drive Hoodie and Legging Drive

The Ashland Youth Service Centers at Ashland Middle School and Blazer are sponsoring a new and gently used "Hoodie & Leggings Drive".  All sizes are needed.  Donations will be accepted at the Blazer AYSC anytime.  Donation bins will also be available at the next four home basketball games. On Monday, February 4th free admission to the game will be granted to everyone who brings a donation. Click here for more information.

Safety & Resource Awareness Event

Everyone is invited to the Safety & Resource Awareness Event taking place Saturday, August 4, 2018 from 2 - 4 pm at Centenary United Methodist Church on Winchester Ave.  This back to school "readifest" program is offered to the community free of charge. They will have inflatables, face-painting, fire-safety house, police car, fire truck, games, hot dogs, chips, drinks, and more.  We hope to see you there.

School Immunization Update

Any student that has not yet obtained a NEW and current immunization certificate, listing all required shots, must have one prior to the 2018-19 school year. The Department of Public Health promulgated a new immunization regulation (effective June 21, 2017) with a new vaccination schedule (effective July 1, 2018). The previous immunization regulation and certificate did not include Hepatitis A. Because the prior certificate did not include Hepatitis A, it can no longer be used for school attendance. The new certificate was released in the summer of 2017. A copy of the new certificate is available online on the Cabinet for Health and Family Services (CHFS) website. A physician’s office may print out an immunization certificate electronically for school attendance as long as the certificate meets all requirements outlined in 902 KAR 2:060.

2018 Summer Feed Program 2018 Summer Feed Program

The Ashland Independent School District is excited to announce our participation in the KY Summer Food Service Program.  The Summer Feed Program provides free meals to children and teens 18 years and under.  Crabbe Elementary will be serving breakfast and lunch daily Monday through Friday.  Breakfast will be served from 8:00 am - 9:00 am.  Lunch will be served 11:00 am - 1:00 pm.  We encourage our families to take advantage of the 2018 Summer Feed Program at Crabbe Elementary.  If you have questions concerning the program please contact Linda Calhoun at 327-2706.

2018 Project ignite - Exploring Aviation - Application Deadline Extended to 5/25 2018 Project Ignite Logo

Project IGNITE is a summer camp designed for students to experience science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics through hands-on investigations that promote innovation and creativity.  The focus this year will be “Exploring AVIATION”!  Students will spend four exhilarating days rotating through five learning activities designed to peak interest and explore the wide world of flight.  The week will conclude with a field trip to the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force in Dayton, Ohio, the birthplace of flight. Students won’t want to miss this opportunity to build new skills that peak curiosity and “ignite” ingenuity.

New KY Immunization Requirements coming in 2018

Effective July 1, 2018 all students in kindergarten through twelfth grade must show proof of having received two doses of Hepatitis A vaccine to attend school, and students age 16 or older, must show proof of having received two doses of Meningococcal ACWY vaccine (MenACWY) to attend school.  Please refer to the attached document for more information.

Registration for Head Start, Preschool and Primary School (formerly kindergarten and first grade students) will be held in the Ashland Independent School District during the week of March 26- March 30, 2018.  Registration hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily Monday through Friday.   Evening hours are available on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

McKinney-Vento Grant available for homeless assistance

The Ashland Independent School District receives the McKinney-Vento grant. This grant allows our schools to help families who are in transition or homeless. If you are homeless or in transition and you need assistance please call Christine Scott, homeless coordinator at 606-327-2706.

Our district has received multiple threats towards our schools. Each threat has been taken seriously and investigated fully with the assistance of the Ashland Police Dept. Arrests have been made in connection to these threats. As always, our first priority is the safety of our students, staff, and families. 2 Hour Delay on Friday, January 19, 2018

Ashland Independent Schools will be on a 2 hour delay, Friday, January 19. 2018. Please be reminded that buses will pick up students exactly 2 hours later than their normal time. All staff, with the exception of our district maintenance department, will report to work under the 2 hour delay schedule.

Head Start / Preschool Schedule for Wednesday, 1/3/18

​The Ashland Head Start schedule for Wednesday, January 3rd will be as follows:

  • Morning only classes will be cancelled.
  • All day classes will report on a two hour delay.
  • Afternoon only classes will report on a regular schedule.
2 Hour Delay on Wednesday, 1/3/18

Due to a main water break on 13th Street and Blackburn Ave., which will result in road closure in the morning, school will be in session tomorrow morning, Wednesday, January 3rd, on a 2 hour delay.  Please be reminded that buses will pick up students exactly 2 hours later than their normal time. The local planning committee will meet at Central Office at 5:30 pm on September 19, 2017.  Any interested community member is welcome to attend.

High Attendance Day!

September 20 is statewide “High Attendance Day” to emphasize that consistent attendance is essential for success in school. If in class regularly, a student is more likely to keep up with the daily lessons and assignments, and to reach academic performance benchmarks on time.  Let’s see if Ashland can have 100% attendance on September 20th !

Public hearing for tax levy

The Ashland Independent Board of Education will hold a public hearing in the Gymnasium of the Ashland Board of Education Office at 1820 Hickman Street on September 15, 2017, at 5:30pm to hear public comments regarding a proposed general fund tax levy of 67.8 cents on real property and 67.8 cents on personal property.

What's for Lunch?

The Ashland Independent School District Food Service Department is excited about the 2017- 2018 school year! We have adjusted all school menus to include tastier versions of entrees and added new items while still staying within the United State Department of Agriculture’s nutritional guidelines. All Ashland schools will be participating in the Community Eligibility Provision program. ALL students will receive ONE FREE breakfast and ONE FREE lunch at no charge each day.  Parents may still deposit money on their child’s meal account through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal which will allow students to purchase an additional meal, entrée, side, milk, and/or a’ la-carte item(s).  A second breakfast will be $1.50 and a second lunch will be $2.00.  Breakfast and Lunch menus are listed below.

Solar Eclipse and Eye Safety Resources for August 21

A total solar eclipse is probably the most spectacular astronomical event that most people will experience in their lives. There is a great deal of interest in watching eclipses, but it must be done safely.  Because of this exceptional opportunity, there is concern that people will be more likely to stare at the Sun during this event.  Improper viewing of the Sun during an eclipse can result in eye injuries such as the development of "eclipse blindness" or retinal burns.

All Schools Closed Monday August 21

As a safety precaution, school will be closed on Monday, Aug 21, 2017 due to the Solar Eclipse. All after school activities will be suspended until 4:30 pm following the eclipse window. Students will make this day up on Friday March 16, 2018 which was a scheduled PD day.

Enrollment Forms now Available Online

Each year students recieve an enrollment packet for parents to complete prior to the start of school.  The forms are required by state law/district prodecure and must be updated each year.  If you would like to save time and complete the forms electroncially prior to the start of school, all of our documents are now accessible online.  

To access forms visit the Enrollment link from the left menu.  The entire set of forms must be completed for each child in your family (except for the household income form) and brought to the school.  Elementary enrollment forms are due the first day of school.  Secondary enrollment forms are due at time of schedule pickup.

Forms can be downloaded and printed using the free Adobe Acrobat Reader (https://get.adobe.com/reader/).  Google Chrome is the preferred and easiest browser for this task.

Paul G. Blazer High School Class of 2017 will graduate on Sunday, May 21st at 5:00 p.m at Putnam Stadium.  In case of poor weather the ceremony will be moved to the high school gymnasium.

Kindergarten Entry Age Change for 17-18 School Year

There is a new cutoff date starting next school year to enroll your child in kindergarten. The calendar survey is now closed.  We would like to thank everyone for their input.  The feedback we recieved was especially helpful.  Of the 940 responses we recieved, 43.72% selected option 1 and 54.47% selected option 2.  The board of education will meet on Monday, January 23, 2017 to examine the survey results and make a final decision.

Parent Member Election to Screening Committee

The Ashland Board of Education is seeking a parent to serve on its superintendent screening committee. The screening committee will screen all applicants and recommend candidate names to the Board of Education for the position of superintendent. The time commitment of committee members includes a minimum of two evening meetings, as well as time to check candidate references

Registration for Head Start, Preschool and Primary School (formerly kindergarten and first grade students) will be held in the Ashland Independent School District during the week of March 28- April 1, 2016.  Registration hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily Monday through Friday.   Evening hours are available on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Our Family Resource Youth Service Center is in need of your input.  In the Governor’s proposed budget, many programs, including FRYSCs, are taking a 4.5% decrease this fiscal year and a 9% budget cut for the following two years.

Grab and Go Breakfast Grad and Go Breakfast logo

Our new Grab and Go breakfast program will begin Monday, November 30! Students who arrive after 7:45 and still need to eat breakfast will get a Grab and Go breakfast that will be taken to the classroom.  The breakfast will be easily eaten in the room with little or no mess to clean up afterwards.  NO CHILD will be denied food at Poage Elementary.  A Grab and Go breakfast allows children to eat breakfast while not missing out on valuable time in the classroom.

Free Lunch for all PreK-12 Students

Ashland Independent has amended its policy for serving meals to students under the National Breakfast and Lunch Program for the 2015-2016 school year. In accordance with the Community Eligibility Program, all students in the district will be served Breakfast and Lunch at no charge at the following sites: Ashland/Blazer High School, Ashland Middle School, Crabbe Elementary, Hager Elementary, Oakview Elementary, Poage Elementary, Charles Russell Elementary and Head Start Program.

6th Annual Boyd County Celebration of Children

The Community Collaboration for Children, Cabinet for Health and Family Services, Ashland Independent, Boyd County and Fairview Independent FamilyResource/Youth Service Centers and The Northeastern Alliance Community Early Childhood Counsel coordially invite you to join them at the 6th Annual Boyd County Celebration of Children. College and Career Fair

On Thursday, November 13th from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. in Anderson Gym on the Campus of Paul Blazer High School, we will be hosting a College and Career Fair for all Blazer students and their parents.  We will have representatives from over 30 plus colleges and universities, branches of the armed services, as well as local employers.  The fair will be hosted by Blazer’s Administration and Counseling staff and Herff Jones, Blazer’s school spirit and graduation partner. 

KDMC Kickoff Caravan

On Friday, October 17th the Ashland Tomcats will be teaming up with Kings Daughters Medical Center and the Greenup County Musketeers in the "Kickoff Caravan" event.  Prior to the friday night football game KDMC will be offering a number of freebies including a mobile health unit.  Helping Hands of Greenup County will also be collecting new and gently used coats for area youth.  Come out for the game and enjoy the festivities.  Click here for more informaiton: KICKOFF CARAVAN

An Evening with Hassan Davis

The Ashland Independent Schools is pleased to present "An Evening with Hassan Davis", on Thursday October 16th, 6:30 pm at the Park Place building in Ashland. From Juvenile Delinquent to Juris Doctor, Hasan is proof positive that great things can happen when adults champion the lives of children.  This district-wide parent involvement program is open free of charge to all parents and gaurdians who wish to attend. What's for Lunch?

This summer the Food Service Department in the Ashland Independent Schools made a number of significant changes to their management system.  Our Food Service system is now tied directly to Infinite Campus. Through the IC Student/Parent portal you can view breakfast and lunch activity by clicking on the FOOD SERVICE link as well as make payments to your account by clicking on the PAYMENTS link.  If you are curious as to "what's for lunch" you can check out our new menu system using the following link http://ashland.nutrislice.com/.  Both Infinite Campus and the Nutrislice menu system come with convenient apps that you can download directly to your mobile device for 24/7 access to Food Service information.

 

 

Schedule Distribution August 11, 2014

All Ashland Middle School schedules will be distributed on August 11, 2014.  Seventh grade students may pick up their schedules from 4-6 pm and eighth grade students may pick up their schedules from 6-8 pm.  A parent must be present.

On Tuesday, April 22, 2014, ninety two students representing the Ashland Independent School District competed in the STLP State Championships.  Congraulations to all of Ashland's winners.

The Kentucky Commissioner of Education is seeking applicants to be considered for appointment to the Ashland Independent Board of Education (this appointment is effective until December 31, 2014).  Application forms for this position are available from the Ashland Independent Board of Education office at 1820 Hickman Street, Ashland, Kentucky  41101.  Deadline is March 26, 2014.
